Unified Sorsogon City Water District (SCWD) and Casiguran Water District (CWD) bagged the overall 1st Runner-Up in the recently concluded BIWADA Team Building 2024, held at Punta Almara, Sitio Ambac, Maonon, Ligao City from August 27-30, 2024.
The BIWADA Team Building, also known as the Sportsfest, is an annual event that brings together the officers and employees from different water districts in the Bicol region. It serves as a platform to showcase their talents and expertise in sports across various activities while fostering collaboration, teamwork, and physical wellness.
The competition included several events such as basketball (men), beach volleyball (men and women), chess, and various twist-filled throws: javelin, shot put, and discus. Traditional games (laro ng lahi) featured were Sipa Version 2.0, sack race, tug-of-war (men and women), patintero, tumbang preso, kadang-kadang, siato/syato, and kawayan relay. Additional highlights of the BIWADA team building included banner raising, zumba, dancesports, and the search for Ms. Tuberong Magayon 2024.
The three-day event kicked off with a holy mass at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, followed by a foot parade from the church to the Ligao City Gymnasium, where the opening ceremony was held with the Ligao City Mayor, Honorable Fernando V. Gonzalez as the guest speaker.
In the various competitions, Unified SCWD and CWD achieved championships in tug-of-war, tumbang preso, and kadang-kadang. They also earned 1st Runner-Up positions in basketball (men), sipa, siato/syato, and shot put throw with a twist, and secured 2nd Runner-Up spots in kawayan relay, banner raising, and dancesports. Additionally, Mr. Orlando Palcuto, plumber of the CWD, who represented the unified team for the search of Ms. Tuberong Magayon 2024, was awarded Ms. Baygon Katol and Ms. Congeniality.
This victory is the result of the hard work and dedication of the employees of Sorsogon City Water District and Casiguran Water District with the full support from the Interim General Manager and the Board of Directors of both water districts, from preparations and practices up to the actual events.
Interim General Manager Engr. Eduardo P. Tejada accepted the honor and responsibility to be the host of the 2025 BIWADA Sporstfest during the awards night held August 29. He added that, “To us this is a huge challenge, we will nevertheless exert our leveled best to be atleast be at par in the performance and the execution of this year’s host water district. Thank you, Ligao City Water District! As you may perhaps heard, the province of Sorsogon is slowly emerging as an important tourist destination in the country, we will therefore propose to the BIWADA leadership the inclusion of tour to some famous and iconic sites in the province of Sorsogon to be part of the team building activity next year.”
