The Sorsogon City Water District (SCWD) and Primewater Sorsogon City joined the International Women’s day Celebration on March 8, 2024 thru the conduct of various activities geared to honor not only women in government service but also those from different walks of life.
The activity started with lunch-salo-salo among SCWD employees, honoring and recognizing the women of the District. Thereafter, a short program ensued where IGM Eduardo P. Tejada, after giving flowers to women of SCWD, emphasized the women’s important roles in the workplaces. The IGM assured his women-officemates that their rights and privileges will always be protected; that gender equality will be observed.
SCWD employees divided themselves into four (4) groups. Each group were given list of names, places and offices where they will be distributing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and purple-themed goodies. Flowers were given to women-government-officials in the city.
Hon. City Mayor Ma. Ester E. Hamor, a known women-organization advocate, was recognized by SCWD of her important role in organizing women not only in the city but in the whole Province of Sorsogon. Her advocacy placed women organizations in greater heights. She was given a bouquet of fresh flowers by IGM Engr. Eduardo P. Tejada and Engr. Alejandro L. Alama. The simple token of recognition was greatly appreciated by the multi-awarded City Mayor.
SCWD also gave accolade to women of other government agencies – National Housing Authority, Philippine Red Cross, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), City Environment and Natural Resources Offices, Civil Service Commission, Sangguniang Panlungsod, Sorsogon Provincial Office, City Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office, City Engineering Office, Provincial Engineer’ Office and Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs. Women in uniform at the Bureau of Fire Protection, Sorsogon Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Philippine National Police were equally recognized.
Women randomly chosen at Public Market and at Central Business District (Centro) were also given goodies and IECs. SCWD intends to recognize these women for their invaluable contribution to their respective families and society.
Water concessionaires and clients of SCWD and PrimeWater were also treated with some goodies. The simple and modest token of appreciation and recognition to the women of society, as planned designed and implemented by SCWD Gender and Development Focal Point System Committee with Ms. Annabelle Ancheta as Focal Person, is expected to boost further the drive towards gender equality.
